The English are obsessed with the weather. At bus-stops, you will overhear conversations between random strangers, bemoaning the state of the Weather. The Weather is a National Institution, something we all talk about and have a view on.
Unlike the Weather, death is something we do not discuss. Yet death is all around us. Every day we awake we are drawing a breath towards our death. Like the early rising sun, death, dying is one thing you can count on happening to someone close to you.
I know many of you are mourning the loss of loved ones. It hurts.
How you cope with death, with the loss of a loved one is personal. I cope with death by retreating into my soul and writing.
Here, is a poem I wrote to symbolise my grief journey.
The Seasons of Grief.
We buried your body deep down amongst the soil.
My hopes, fears and dreams, I laid there too.
We planted flowers, sowed seeds, picked the weeds
and lovingly tended Your Resting Place.
Seasons passed.
I laid dormant. Numbly gazing at the soil.
Summer turned into Autumn.
Autumn berries glowed
Covering the placard which bore Your Name.
My heart stirred Open.
Autumn turned into Winter.
My daughters planted snowdrops, stuck candles in the soil.
I allowed light In.
Winter turned into Spring
Glorious colours.
Mother Earth in all her Glory
covered Your place.
My eyes started to Sparkle.
Spring turned into Summer.
I held my head Up.
Started to laugh, my laughter filling the air,
My breath watered the flowers below-adorning your resting place.
Seasons passed…

As you journey through your grief, may your seasons be light.
Stay forever blessed and thanks for taking the time to pause and rewind.
Beautifully expressed – thanks for sharing. 🙂
