When you hear the words “chill, relax, go with the flow” what does that mean for you? Are you able to chill, to relax, go with the flow? Or is your life so full of “stuff” you don’t even feel the flow; Or are you stuck, unable to resolve a challenging issue and spin round and query “what flow?”
In yoga, you are encouraged to embrace change, to open your heart and allow magic, new beginnings, people or events into your life. Yet so often, being human, you hold on, resist the inevitable and long for things to remain the same.
From personal experience I know how challenging it is to embrace change, to surrender and allow new life, opportunities, people into your life.
Right now, I am struggling with the process of allowing new light, in the form of a relationship, into my life. I ask myself all the usual questions, shall I, sharnt I, what if ,….and still remain on the fence.
Learning to let go, to surrender is a challenge. If you are like me, you like certainty, a sign that that you are making the right choice. Yet the essence of life is to live with an element of uncertainty, the unknown and, to trust that the known will become clearer as you progress.
Next time you feel stuck, overwhelmed or just plain ole -tired, take a break, sit down and practice this simple yoga breathing exercise. You will feel calm, refocused and energized..ready to move forward and more empowered to embrace change.
Yoga Breathing Exercise to Release Stress and Tension
Stop what you are doing. Sit or stand still and take a moment to take a deep centering breath.
Inhale from your belly and slowly feel that breath travel all the way up through your ribcage, your chest and top of lungs. Slowly relax and release your breath.
Repeat 3-7 times. Each time drawing your awareness to your body as you feel the tension and stress flow from you.
Doesn’t that feel good. Now, where was I ….oh yes, pondering about whether to embrace a new relationship….
