In today’s blog post, I’d like to share with you a book which I couldn’t live without because it helped to kickstart my journey of recovery, healing and feeling happy.

If you enjoy reading, you’ll know how books have the power to transform you and lead you into magical places inside your self.
As a child, I spent many happy hours curled up on the settee reading books about The Famous Five and Malory Towers and today, as a published author, I am touched when readers comment that something I wrote has helped them through a crisis and brighten their day.
What is this book I couldn’t live without?
One of my cousins’, I call him my “little cousin”, even though he is 6ft 3 and a former American football player, sent me a copy of Acts of Faith: Daily Meditation for People of Color by Iyanla Vanzant, when we suddenly lost our dear cousin, Sherry, in 1997.
At that time, I was low and with hindsight on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
My girls were toddlers.
Life was a struggle and I had no energy to care properly for them and hold down my stressful job as a Probation Officer.
What is so special about this book?
Acts of Faith is a beautiful book.
It consists of daily inspirational verse and prompts to inspire quiet reflection and meditation.
I recall I would wake up and read a passage and then sit quietly, often in tears as the words and messages found a chink in my armour.

Over the years, I have read 100s of personal development and inspirational spiritual books, yet Acts of Faith is The Book which helped me to get my energy back, look at myself and gradually see my situation in a different light and opened my heart.
Maybe one day, I will get a chance to meet the author and personally thank Ms Iyanla Vanzant for her work. Maybe. Someday.
Over to you…what book couldn’t you live without?
Reading continues to be a source of joy, comfort and encouragement for me, and I’m sure for you.
Pray, tell me, what book have you read that left an imprint on your heart and turned your life around. What was it about that particular book you enjoyed? Do share because I’d love to read it as well.
Tell next time, Happy Reading!
Thanks for popping by to read today’s blog.
If you haven’t read Acts of Faith, go ahead now and check it out.
I hope you like it even more than I do.
Keep well,
Ntathu
